Hip Replacement Abroad

Hip Replacement Surgery Costs: £6500

( for bilateral see below )

The cost quoted includes all hospital costs and hotel accommodation.

On arrival at Malta Airport you will be collected and driven to The Victoria Hotel  ( see www.victoriahotel.com ) . The hotel is next door to the hospital. Then you will see the Surgeon and have tests. The next day you will be admitted to St. James Hospital, Sliema, Malta for the operation and remain there for about 5 days. Physiotherapy, which is included in the quoted cost starts the day after the operation and continues until you return home.
After the 5 days you will return to the hotel for about 7 days. Whilst in the hotel you will be visited frequently by your physiotherapist. The hospital is on call from the hotel, 24x7. You will therefore be in Malta for about 2 weeks.

Hip Replacement Abroad Information

The quoted cost does not include flights, but I can arrange these if you wish as a ticket provider. Air Malta fly from many UK and Irish destinations direct to Malta. British Airways also fly direct from London. The cost of a return ticket varies, and is usually from £200 to £250.

It is recommended that patients are accompanied by a relative or friend. Twin room or single accommodation is available at special rates at The Victoria Hotel. The cost for two weeks accommodation for a relative or friend at the Victoria Hotel depends on seasonal rates and is approx. £300 to £350.

Hip Replacement - Next Steps:

For patients the first step now, is to send me information about their condition. This can be in the form of a recent x-ray or scan and, if available, a report from an Orthopaedic Surgeon. Patients who have seen a Doctor privately in UK or Ireland can get a copy of both from their private doctor at no extra cost, as the fee they have paid should cover copies.
For patients who have been under the care of  the NHS, copies of both can be obtained from their GP or The Medical Records Officer at the hospital they attended, for a small fee.
I send these to the Orthopaedic Surgeon in Malta, and the quote, treatment and time of the operation are confirmed. Times are set to suit the patient.

Hip Operation Procedure:

The operation performed is as minimally invasive as possible, and the prosthesis used will depend on the patient's condition, preference and the opinion of the doctor. This will be decided by the patient and the doctor during consultation. The pre and post operative care is to the highest standard to ensure that the patient can make a complete recovery and return home in the best possible health.'

Malta is Ideal for Hip Operation Post Operative Care:

Malta is an ideal holiday destination and patients are able to enjoy the weather, the sights and stroll along the seafront during recuperation, before returning home.

Bilateral Hip Replacement Costs and Information:

Bilateral hip replacement £11,120
The arrangements are the same as above, except that the stay in Malta is 2 days hotel, 10 days hospital and 10 days hotel. If a friend or relative is with you then their stay is 22 days and not 14, and the cost proportionally higher.
