Why should engagement rings be considered as only for the young?

There are two maxims that certainly sustain the ring of truth: ‘Youth is overrated’, and ‘Youth is wasted on the young’. And the simple truth of the matter is these maxims are not a condemnation of the young but simply a poignant reminder to everyone that youth is a very fleeting thing that gets clouded in the passage of time. And one very important idea that gets obscured in that cloud of youthful exuberance is the idea that age does not preclude the need for comfortable romantic companionship and that this can and many times does lead to a discussion of engagement rings by that percentage of the population that wakes to discover graying hair in their mirrors. If there are medical concerns involved there is all the more reason to consider a bit of haste in bringing a wondrous December romance to fruition. As always costs are an overwhelming concern for anyone approaching the official retirement age and to maximize the use of a retirement nest egg it is very prudent to make use of overseas medical treatments for any major surgery needed.

In fact it is easy to see that the two ideas, romance and a possible hip replacement, are far from mutually exclusive and indeed a way can be found to dovetail the two ideas perfectly. Because original engagement rings are an integral part of the union of a couple in our world the savings from an overseas operation could, quite easily be converted into an extra carat that will display love and devotion. Why should it matter if one of the partners needs re-constructive knee surgery if the two happy parties concerned can travel to Malta to make use of the modern hospital facilities there and to use needed recovery time to honeymoon on the seaside. Now, of course, the young people of today’s world would probably see no romance in this concept at all, thinking that medical needs would necessarily preclude the very idea of romance. Ah, youth, how simply blind it can be to the needs and desires of a couple willing to face the adversities of the world in a mature manner.

The young are simply unwilling to believe that the choosing of engagement rings, the making of wedding plans and a honeymoon are exclusively the province of those under the age of thirty. But the simple fact of the matter is that love blossoms at its own rate and that love is quite definitely blind and will strike any and all of us at any time and at any age. So if Cupid’s arrow has been aimed at the hearts of two of the ‘older’ generation it should be looked upon as a veritable cause for celebration. And if those two so struck should by any chance to decide to combine tying the knot of their declaration of love with the use of overseas medical treatment and to also wisely save money using this time as their honeymoon one can only think that they should be heartily congratulated as they embark on their new lives.
